Sooooo…… It's been awhile since I've had the chance to sit down and update my blog with pictures of the girls and our family. One sentence to sum up the reason: Just when we thought enough bad stuff had happened to us something else crazy happened.
So it all started in October. Brandon's Grandma (Gg-Ma) needed surgery on her throat due to complications from when she had a heart attack last year. She had been having trouble swallowing with is not good. So she had the surgery and everything went well and she was sent home. Two days later she woke up and couldn't breathe well so she went back to the hospital. Sadly her body wasn't reacting well from the surgery and the doctors said it wouldn't be much longer before she went to heaven. Sunday morning of October 5 Norma Nicks took her last breathe and joined her husband and Jesus in Heaven.
While we were all morning the loss of this wonderful woman I just found out the ASL teacher that worked with me quit! After only 6 weeks of working between CHS and IHS she said we was "stressed" and emailed in her letter of resignation on the night before Gg-Mas passed. Needless to say ASL teachers aren't the easiest to find so for almost 6 weeks I was literally teaching my kids and her classes at the same time! There were several days I had to run back and forth between my classroom and hers to teach both classes with the help of my teacher aids. Then there were days we didn't have a sub to sit in the classroom with the kids so I combined my class with hers. Which sounds ok but I didn't teach the same level of ASL at the same time as her. So there with at least 3 different days I was teaching ASL 1 and 3 or ASL 2 and ASL 1 at the same time. This meant their were at least 50 plus kids and me in one room trying to learn. All the extra teaching and grading really stressed me out to the point that I had a panic attack and didn't even know it! One day I was feeling really weird. I had a headache, my hands were shaking and I was having a hard time focusing. I ended up going to the nurse and when she took my blood pressure she said it was too high and sent me home. Later I went to my doctor and told her what was going on and how I had been feeling at work. She prescribed me some meds to help me when I started feeling the panic attacks starting which really helped! Finally after 4 weeks of crazy we found someone to be the long term sub for the other classes. She's been great!
While all this was going on towards the end of October my Grammy started having really bad stomach pains which caused her to end up in the hospital. The pains turned out to be pancreatic cancer. Even with all the pain meds she was still in A LOT OF PAIN! It was the hardest thing to see her lay there in bed in agony. The week of Thanksgiving my mom and I went to spend a few days with her since we knew her days were numbered and we wanted to help out Aunt Cecile and Uncle Ernie caring for Grammy. She was having a hard time doing anything and moving her to use the bathroom or to eat caused her more pain. Monday she had a doctors appointment which by this time she wasn't very responsive. The nurse called for an ambulance and they took her to the hospital in Tyler where she could get an IV of Potassium and fluids. Spent Thanksgiving with her in the hospital. Friday she was transported to a Hospice center so they could manage her pain and hopefully send her home to stay comfortable and spend her last days at home. Saturday we realized she would never go home and that she was going to heaven any day. She spent one week slowing dying while my mom and Aunt Cecile stayed by her side. Many visitors came with food, hugs and where able to say their goodbyes to her. One night some of my mom's students even came up with a Christmas tree and many letters of Thanks to Grammy for all her support and wisdom she shared with them. Friday I went to be with Grammy and my mom. I'm so glad I was able to be there because at 6:05 December 5 Grammy took her last breath and went to be with her mom, dad and Jesus. That was the hardest thing to watch however I'm so glad I was there to be with her, my mom, Aunt Cecile and Uncle Ernie.
So now Brandon and I have both lost our grandmothers and its Christmas time. I'm looking forward to the break and then another bomb goes off in my life. I find out that FISD is phasing out ASL 3 and 4. That means they are cutting half of my program! I've spend 5 years building my program at CHS that I needed a part time teacher at my school to help with the number of students taking ASL and now they are decided to cut half of it! This was defiantly a blow to the gut and is still stressful for me. But anyway I've tried to stay positive about and just be glad I still have a job.
So I come back from Christmas break and for a few weeks things are kind of back to normal. Then I find out one of the other ASL teacher at another school is having to extend her medical leave. They needed me to create lesson plans for the new long term sub! Yeah… So I was staying positive because I thought I had everything together at work and it would be ok to help out the other school. But the day I needed to get all the sub plans together, videos, tests, etc. shit hits the fan! I am literally running around the school to get stuff done. Why you ask? I had forgot that morning that the long term ASL sub was going to be that morning and I needed to make copies and find a sub! So 3 minutes before class starts I started running! Finally it's 2nd period (my conference period) and I'm getting things done (still freaking out) when I get a call from the daycare. Reese had been screaming and crying because her "booty" hurt when she went to the bathroom. I knew what that meant a UTI. So I call the front office let them know I need to leave. I hurry up and put out lesson plans for my kids and go pick up Reese. Long story short she did have a UTI and a yeast infection and it was NOT FUN watching her scream in pain while trying to get her to pee in the cup for the doctor.
So now it's almost March and really hope summer comes soon! This school year has been nuts! Brandon just turned 31 on Friday and we had 4 inches of snow fall yesterday. We actually got to miss two days of school last week because of ice. Next week we are going to Destin, FL with Brandon's family for Spring Break but we may not be spending too much time at the beach because it's cold in Florida too!
So I'm going to wrap it up now and start posting pictures of the last few crazy months.
